Woodbridge Fire Department is seeking volunteers. Volunteering with the department is rewarding in many ways:

Requirements
-
Between the ages of 18 and 45
-
Resident of Woodbridge or
Sewaren 6 months prior to election to membership

Maintain residence in Woodbridge
or Sewaren

Complete background check
-
Valid NJ Drivers License
-
Pass a physical examination as per New Jersey State Firemen's Association
guidelines
-
Complete a minimum of Firefighter I training
within 1 year of being elected to membership
-
Respond to a certain minimum
number of calls per year (there are no duty times or schedules)
Training requirements:
Completion of Firefighter I program at the
Middlesex County
Fire Academy.
- Firefighter I consists of a 150 hour course of
instruction in basic firefighting techniques and a CPR course
- Offered in
both day and night sessions
- Takes approximately 1 month to complete (days) and 3
months (nights)
- Paid for by the department.
- New members may respond to calls, but
may not engage in fire suppression activities until the course is completed.

Additional Training
Courses:
WFD makes available any training course given by the
Middlesex County Fire Academy to active volunteers. These courses cover a broad range of
topics including additional firefighting applications, HazMat and rescue courses and EMT
certification and are paid for by the department.
LOSAP
LOSAP or Length of Service Award Program, was
approved by Woodbridge District 1 voters in 1998. This program provides a "retirement" benefit based on volunteer activity in the
department and total length of service. Members become eligible for LOSAP benefits after the completion of 5 years of active
service.
Tuition Reimbursement
The Woodbridge Township Council has approved
participation in a State of New Jersey plan whereby active volunteers may be eligible for partial tuition reimbursement from approved colleges provided
they meet certain requirements. This program is funded by the Township of Woodbridge.
Workmen's Compensation Plan
As a member of Woodbridge Fire Department, you
will be covered by Workmen's Compensation for any injuries sustained while
performing firefighting duties.
Life Insurance
Life insurance is provided at no cost to members
of the department.

membership in the NJ

Membership Discount
The YMCA at the Woodbridge Community
Center offers members a 50% discount on membership.

physical examination will be scheduled.
